Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with a continuously increasing prevalence, often reducing patients' quality of life due to complications and the demands of lifelong care. This study aims to analyze the relationship between motivation for recovery and quality of life in DM patients at Wava Husada Kepanjen Hospital. Using an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach, data was collected from 100 DM patients. The results showed that 100% of the respondents had good motivation for recovery. However, their quality of life varied, with 74% having a good quality of life and 26% a poor quality of life. Statistical tests indicated a significant relationship between the two variables (p-value = 0.002), with a correlation coefficient of r = -0.625. This finding suggests a strong negative correlation, where higher motivation for recovery is associated with a lower quality of life for the patient. This unexpected result highlights the need for interventions that focus not only on motivation but also on psychosocial support and realistic education to help patients effectively manage the hopes and challenges of their disease.
